The Matrix

The film the Matrix was a 1996 science fiction film that dealt with an alternate reality, or perhaps real reality. To many people’s surprise, it was a big hit and spawned two sequels, plus a third more recently.

The first film was total nonsense, of course, but highly entertaining and famed for its special effects. For us, one highlight was Carrie-Anne Moss (and her stunt doubles) dressed in black latex stuff.

I don’t think Moss was a great fan of her outfits in this film, and certainly hated the heels, so in later films she went more down the pvc rabbit hole.

But the Wachowskis like their latex, and later films did feature some lovely outfits, especially on Monica Bellucci. We especially loved her in a translucent dress, sharing her pubic region with the world (not that she would be bothered):

Preaching

How many films can you name where the love of latex clothing has been a key element throughout the film.

No, not really The Matrix, or Maitresse, but what about Preaching to the Perverted?

This British film came out in 1997 and we have it on dvd. We cannot remember how much, if any, distribution it had in the cinemas, but it must have been some.

It’s been a while since we watched it. Our memory is that it’s quite tame. Yes, there’s lots of latex costumes, but the rest is just play, or the camera cuts away at the last minute. We suppose it was necessary to get a general certificate. The acting was also not so great, but OK.

It’s a kind of 1970s British sex romp, sub Carry On, involving MPs and abductions and a small amount of comedy. And religious nonsense.

Underworld

The film Underworld was quite a big hit, though critically panned, and there were sequels.

A highlight was Kate Beckinsale in a latex catsuit and leather corset.

The story goes, please correct us if it’s wrong, that she hated it, and it was replaced by pvc for the subsequent films.
